Trauma-informed care is an awareness and an understanding that people behave in ways that are shaped by their past or present experiences of trauma.

People are shaped by their positive or difficult life experiences. Positive experiences can give us confidence and make us feel joy. Difficult experiences on the other hand can make us feel scared and miserable. The memories of these experiences can affect us in many ways, some of which we may not fully understand.

Difficult experiences are much more memorable than the positive ones, the side-effects of self-preservation are long-lasting. These experiences change how we interact with the world and we become sensitive to anything that we may see as being similar to that experience. As a consequence, we are deeply affected by how the world interacts with us.
